What is this guys problem?

ok so ive never talked 2 this guy before but we've txted. he would always look at me weneva i passed him in the halls. one of my friends told him i liked him and then i txted him asking wat she sed and he sed he was talking 2 someone else and then i totally denied liking him and sed i only thot he was cute not tht i liked him. he wud still look at me and a couple times hes evn smiled at me. another time we literally stared at eachother and neither of us looked away. if i totally ignore him he looks at me and is loud but if i look at him he ignores me and is quiet. is it possible he likes me and is just extremely shy or he doesnt like me but still looks at me cuz he knows i like him?
